s/Moustache
s/Moustache began as a theatrical wonderfully dream one night which involved the two performers personally, Will and Musetta, with whom I had recently become acquainted as fellow master students in performance studies. The dream was both the making of and the dance itself. I told them about my dream sometime later that week, and they were interested in pursuing the collaboration. This dance became embedded within, sharply refracting outward from, the more formal embodiments of what was to become PRISM. s/Moustache was partially intact through recourse into the images, feelings and objects exposed in my vivid dream. It manifested itself as a eulogy of sorts... the process of remembrance and forgetting a particular coupling that continued to haunt me through the year of 2006. s/Moustache is inspired by the play of the characters in François Truffaut's 1962 film JULES et JIM. It involves singing (beautiful operatic voice); jiggiing coins in the pocket, watching her, then the hazardous gesture of a signature as coins are thrown to the ground; pomade & hands comb through the hair again and again, his hips moving in awkward yet willful figure eights; secret dream of the night before whispered in her ear.
