is based on the previous hour-long solo performed as a site-specific installation in Million Fishes Gallery, and then on the duet performed with sister Gelsey in Brooklyn.
It involves a subtly interactive and sometimes confrontational presence with the audience while simultaneously demanding attention and ignoring it.
The piece begins with a private sense of self and focus, generally remaining in a hallway and non-stage area. There is but one light, and the dance is only partially seen from the general audience vantage point. Throughout it moves onto the "stage" and is strong, public, and more-or-less unaffected. The moments of audience recognition on the part of the dancer continue, asking somewhat obvious questions: what do they want? what do they think they see? -- or rather, what do you want? what do you think you see? The dancer continues unaffected by the answers, merely acknowledging the questions; no stranger to the expectations generated in performance, media, location, intimacy, man and woman.
TCITCW variation is 10 minutes long.
Performed/Choreography: Biba Bell
Music: Dillon de Give & "Taifuu" by Kazemachi Roman
TCITCW variation is a development of TCITCW duet, previously performed in Brooklyn with performer/sister extraordinaire, Gelsey.
